Schouwen-Duiveland offers many opportunities to go out with your dog, ranging from vast beaches to beautiful nature reserves. Below you will find an overview of dog-friendly locations and the applicable rules:
Beaches:
General rules:
October 1 to April 30: Dogs are allowed to run free on the beach and in the sea all day long.
May 1st to October 1st: Dogs are allowed off the leash between 7pm and 10am; outside these times they must be kept on a leash.
Specific locations:
Tell-tale beach: From April 1 to September 15, dogs must always be kept on a leash here.
Between De Punt and the Oosterscheldekering near Westerschouwen: Dogs are allowed to run free here all year round.
Off-leash areas:
Westerschouwen Forestry: The largest forest in Zeeland offers a special off-leash area behind the camping sites, between the edge of the forest and the bridle path at the Adriaan van der Weijdeweg.
Grevelingendam: At the end of the Strandweg on the Grevelingenstrand recreation area there is a dog walking area.
Ouwerkerk Creek Area: This area offers opportunities to walk with your dog; please note that in some places dogs must be kept on a leash.
General tips:
Always carry a dog poop bag and clean up after your dog to keep the environment clean.
